some games really dont need instructions, theyre that simple take the recent universo that made it to the front page, simple click and drag format, easy to understand, others haveing no instructions set the mood of the game, take super metroid for instance, cool thing or no, it can help a game, or ruin it, its a really delicit issue, but for the most part the games that have no instructions are better without them, then with them
I'm too lazy to read instructions... Throw me a D-Pad or ASWD or analog(s) alongside a main button or two or a dozen, and I'll get the hang of it soon enough...

they're stripping away all the structure from everything; look at youtube nowadays compared to 05~07. Stumbleupon too. now you got steam where you just download everything and gotta fig it out fer yehself
Actually this places you in a minority. Statistics show that most people ignore instructions or skip them and prefer to figure them out if the game is simple enough. I am partial to your view though. I also like to have some sort of reassurance that I'm playing someone's game properly. You are one of many people we must consider when we make our games.

I dunno. I actually kind of hate tutorials to be honest with you. And besides, I don't really mind it. I don't know why you care.
And besides! I like learning how to play a game just from experience, not from reading a manual.

Well, first, I would count tutorials as instructions. Tutorials are fine with me. I'm talking about games with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that tells you how to play them. Not even whether you should use the mouse or keyboard or what. There are a LOT of them out there.
If I don't know what I'm supposed to do, how can I play? Even if it's just "Use the mouse to click stuff and figure out what to do!", that tells me what to expect.
